Middle school seniors

Within this call, by May 31, 2024 5 middle school seniors were selected and given an opportunity to take an individual tour of the hotel closest to their place of residence, learn about the operations of the hotel and its different departments, meet the hotel staff and obtain information about occupations in the hospitality industry.

Hospitality and tourism high schoolers

Within this call, by May 31, 2024 51 hospitality and tourism high schoolers were selected and given an opportunity to take an individual tour of the hotel closest to their place of residence, learn about different hotel departments, meet the hotel staff and obtain information about occupations in the hospitality industry as well as get some tips and tricks about how to embark on their career journeys. The selected high schoolers were also able to take part in the Open Doors event and meet hospitality professionals from different Impresia Association hotels, and get some helpful hints about the career start and development in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Business school, college and university students with a hospitality or tourism major

Within this call, 5 business school, college and university students with a hospitality or tourism major were selected and given an opportunity to participate in a two-day workshop with member hotels of the Association of Unique Croatian Hotels Impresia focusing on revenue management and human resources management, i.e. on guest relations management and highly demanding hotel guest communication as well as interdepartmental communication.

Pupils and students were selected to take part in the project based on their motivational letters expressing their interest in the project participation. Some of their key takeaways and considerations on tourism and different occupations are outlined below:

  • I think tourism is an opportunity for cultural preservation and exchange, personal growth and economic development of my region. To be able to thrive in this industry, we need to be passionate about hospitality and aspire to do everything we possibly can to make someone’s journey and stay more pleasant. The hospitality industry offers a wide range of occupations, but some of them seem particularly interesting to me. The concierge job seems very compelling as the concierge helps make hotel guests’ wishes come true.
  • The tourist season should be as long as possible and tourists should be coming all year long. That is why all tourism professionals should do their best to offer guests something new, interesting and captivating all the time.
  • Personally, I like the “hotel housekeeping job” the most. In addition to many practical assignments the housekeepers carry out, they should be nice, interesting, speak English as well as other languages and most importantly, they need to be informed and interesting. Every hotel must pay special heed to the staff they hire as this will reflect on the hotel’s reputation. Without the housekeeping staff, the hospitality industry would be inconceivable. Housekeeping may seem of lesser importance, but this truly is an important job!
  • In the context of hospitality industry, I find the receptionist and the luggage porter jobs extremely interesting. Their constant interactions with hotel guests make these two occupations very appealing. I like to make people happy by being decent and professional, and to closely observe their positive reactions – that makes my day.
  • From my perspective, in the hospitality industry, it is interesting to see how the hotel staff can turn an ordinary building with lots of windows, rooms and cold white walls into a home with a loving atmosphere where guests feel as if anything is possible.
  • To be part of this industry means to take part in the creation of happy moments and memories for people from all over the world. Every journey entails a new dose of excitement, discovery and amazing experiences. Being part of the moment when somebody discovers something new, falls in love with the beauty of the venue or creates an unforgettable memory gives me indescribable joy.
  • Gastro-tourism gives me the opportunity to embark on culinary adventures and explore the world by means of food.
